The Opportunity

About Us

Baton is the innovation lab inside Ryder, the Fortune 500 that moves $10B of freight a year. We design and ship AI-powered software that enables Ryder and its customers, including Shell, Anheuser-Busch, H&M, and many of the most well-known brands in the U.S., to plan and execute freight intelligently, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Ryder acquired Baton in 2022 to power its next wave of digital products, and our work touches every part of the U.S. economy.

Baton's mission is to enable supply chain on autopilot, backed by a Fortune 500's customers and capital, and Platform is structurally one of the most important pods in the org.

The Platform team is the connective tissue underneath Baton's product surface. Every alert, every search result, every ETA, every permission check flows through what we build. Platform is also the home of RyderOne Adaptive Capacity, the first product taking Baton from internal infrastructure to a real, sold, in-market offering, with $500M of identified opportunity ahead of it.

In practical terms, Adaptive Capacity blends the two models customers use today: dedicated capacity (Baton supplies the drivers, trucks, and equipment) and brokerage (an on-demand load board). As fuel and transportation costs swing, customers don't want to be locked into one or the other. Adaptive Capacity lets them dial between dedicated and brokerage inside a single contract — and the Platform GPM owns taking it from a plan to a live customer.

Highlights

Own a $500M Opportunity

RyderOne Adaptive Capacity is Baton's 2026 product bet: trucking that flexes with demand instead of a fixed fleet customers are locked into. You take it from product definition through GTM and production.

Own the Horizontal Platform

RBAC, Notifications, Search, ETA — the horizontal layer underneath everything Ryder's customers touch in the product. The Platform pod is three teams (Core Platform, ML/AI, Data), with more PMs to bring on as the team grows over the next 12–18 months.

Player-Coach from Day One

Lead the Platform pod as a player-coach — hands-on as the PM driving Adaptive Capacity while managing and growing the PM team from day one. Bring your network with you; promote the people you grow.

Shape the Agentic Roadmap

Baton has a board mandate to ship an agentic experience in the product this year, on top of heavy existing ML in routing, ETA, and pricing. This role helps figure out where AI creates the most leverage across RyderShare and Adaptive Capacity.

Real Customers, Real Scale

260,000 vehicles under management. 120+ enterprise customers on RyderShare™ including Shell, Anheuser-Busch, and H&M. 10M shipment loads updated daily. You're shipping to Fortune-500 supply chains with real revenue behind you.

Fortune-500 Stability + Startup Speed

Baton is ~65 people moving at startup pace, backed by Ryder — a public company that moves $10B in freight with 43,000+ employees. You get a startup's ownership and speed with public-company stability.

Candidate

Is This You?

You've built and led a platform product team at enterprise scale, and somewhere along the way you've had early-stage experience. You're an athlete PM: multi-domain, you've stayed through priority shifts and shipped through them, and you're allergic to "that's not my team's scope."

Your Mission

Lead the Platform pod. Ship RyderOne Adaptive Capacity to a live customer by end of 2026. Build the PM team that compounds platform horizontals.

What you'll get to do

  • Own Adaptive Capacity 0→1: Define the product, the ICP, the GTM motion, the success metrics. Take Adaptive Capacity from definition to a live customer on the mode-switching capability by Q4 2026. Your hands are on this the whole way: pricing, ICP, GTM partnership with Sales and CS, customer scoping, design partner program.
  • Build and Lead the Platform PM Team: You'll manage from day one and grow the team as the work demands: running honest performance conversations, writing development plans that move people, hiring PMs who raise the bar, and bringing your network with you.
  • Ship the Horizontals on a Predictable Cadence: RBAC, notifications, search, ETA. Make the shared platform services ship on a predictable cadence with clear commitments to the pods that build on top of them.
  • Define the Agentic Story in Product: Baton has a board mandate to ship an agentic experience in the product this year. Heavy existing ML: route optimization, ETA accuracy, pricing models. This role helps decide where LLMs and agents create the most customer leverage on top of that foundation.
  • Represent Platform to Ryder Leadership: Present product strategy directly to executives at one of the largest logistics businesses in the world.

What we're looking for

  • 8+ Years in Product, 3+ Actively Managing PMs: You've managed PMs with real depth — written their development plans, run hard performance conversations, and promoted people — not just had reports assigned to you on an org chart.
  • Hired PMs Who Became Better Than You: The strongest leadership signal we look for.
  • Player-Coach Mentality: Comfortable being hands-on as a PM yourself while you build and lead the team.
  • Platform Product 0→1: You've shipped a platform product to enterprise customers through a full 0→1→scale arc, not a feature slice inside a big product org.
  • Early-Stage Experience: Somewhere in your career you've operated where the job wasn't pre-defined for you — owned a product line end-to-end without a big org around you.
  • Resilience Through Shifting Priorities: You've stayed in a role where the scope changed under you and shipped through it. You read as an athlete, not a snowflake.
  • Strong Product Writing: You're high-tolerance for ambiguity and you work it out in writing — PRDs, strategy docs, retros — strong enough to let the team scale beyond your direct attention.

Bonus Points

  • Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, or Fleet Domain: Direct domain match is a strong signal.
  • AI / ML / Agentic in Product: You've shipped AI features inside a product, not just used AI tools internally. ML pricing, routing, or ETA models are especially relevant.
  • Fortune-500-meets-Startup Experience: You've operated where startup speed had to coexist with large-enterprise stakeholders and procurement cycles.
